PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND

Prince William Sound is a 2,800 square mile inland sea separated from the Gulf of Alaska by a series of major barrier islands.  Most of the landmass surrounding the Sound is part of the Chugach National Forest. The only communities of any size are the towns of Whittier, Cordova and Valdez, Alaska. There are two Native villages, Tatitlek and Chenega.  The vast majority of this huge area is virtually uninhabited.

The photo shows the location of the Sound in Alaska, and if you move your cursor over it, you will see the zoomed-in image.

As you can see, the area is surrounded by massive mountains, ice fields and glaciers. There are literally hundreds of bays, passages, islands and glacial fiords with secluded coves perfect for a protected nights anchorage. This makes Prince William Sound a truly fantastic cruising ground.
